Drinking a cup or two of coffee is a common way to get your energy going in the morning. That’s because it’s high in caffeine, which is a fairly powerful stimulant. Coffee may not make you smarter right now, but studies show a little caffeine boosts your reaction time and may help to preserve brain function as you age.
Research also suggests coffee (regular or decaf) consumption might reduce your risk of having type 2 diabetes.
Drinking coffee may help your weight loss efforts too. Caffeine may boost your metabolism just a bit, and plain black coffee has almost no calories. Of course, adding sugar and cream to your coffee could negate that effect by adding extra calories.
