Apples are a good source of vitamin C and fiber, while being low in calories. They also contain large amounts of antioxidants that protect the cells in your body from free-radical damage.

Make this apple pie smoothie for breakfast or as a healthy afternoon snack. A tangy apple like Granny Smith is a good choice, but you can choose your favorite variety.

Ingredients:

1/2 apple

1/2 banana

3/4 cup light almond milk

1 tsp honey

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1/8 tsp ground cloves

2 to 3 ice cubes

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender — blend on high until smooth. Makes one serving.

155 calories

2 grams fat

122 mg sodium

337 mg potassium

36 grams carbohydrates

4 grams fiber

In addition, one smoothie will provide you with 8 percent of vitamin A, 21 percent of vitamin C, 35 percent calcium and 5 percent of the iron you need for the day.
